The Yost 908-AS 8-inch utility combination pipe and bench vise are made from structural cast steel (SC37). Equipped with permanent pipe jaws and a large, reinforced anvil, it has a no-pinch main screw handle; bench-mount vise with 8" nominal top jaw width and 0.75"- to 2.25"-diameter pipe capacity provides clamping action for light-duty applications. Equipped with a full 360-degree swivel base adjusts the direction of the jaws for proper placement and locks in place; cast steel body is painted black for mild protection against corrosion and has flat portion that acts as a reinforced anvil and an additional work surface.
Every Yost Vises tool is engineered to have high standards of quality, strength, and durability. We value quality over quantity and manufacture products that are safe and easy to use. We offer lifetime tech support to back our quality guarantee.
Out of the box vice functions well. Jaws line well every time. The design of makes it hard to install so that hangs over the side of your bench. Most concerning is how thin the base is hopefully it will hold up to hard use.
I got this a few weeks back when Eastwood had put them at over 50% with free shipping - think it ended up running 93.00 (with tax) - sometimes Eastwood just doesn't care about making money, I guess lol.
Great company, Eastwood, with awesome customer service.
Anyway this thing is a Monster 8x8x3.5 Cast Steel Yost Vise..
Is it Forged Steel or Ductile Iron? No... it's basically the same steel you would use in an Anvil...tough as can be and all three materials are in the range of Yeah, so far past cast iron.. what's the point?
Jaws line up perfectly.
Screw turns like a dream.
No complaints at all...I work my tools hard...metal working...and this almost stacks up to my Yost FSV (Forged Steel Vise) and that's saying a Lot.
That said...this isn't a hobby vise.
Pretty large and weighs about 50 pounds.
It opens out to 8 inches.
So if space is a concern it does take up some and it's more than an occasional user might want to mount in his garage.
But for metal work, frequent shop use or as a large general use vise on a farm?
You definitely won't go wrong with this one.
